Job Description

The Director of Student Life exists to enhance student engagement across all PPCC campuses. As such, this role supports the College’s retention and completion initiatives. By providing an array of co-curricular, extra-curricular, and other activities/events supportive of student engagement, this position plays a key role both in reinforcing student learning and in augmenting PPCC’s students’ sense of belonging within the campus community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Five years of experience in student services within a community college, or in a setting where a similar set of services are offered.
  • Leadership experience within an institution of higher education or a similarly oriented organization.
  • Experience working effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to utilize productivity software, such as the Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services, Student Affairs in Higher Education, Public Administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three years of experience providing effective, direct supervision of staff (i.e., classified, student, administrative or professional staff).
  • Three years of direct experience in problem-solving and conflict resolution within an organizational context.
  • Documented background preparing and managing a complex budget in a professional environment.
  • Experience designing, conducting, and assessing leadership workshops, other pertinent trainings for student organizations, and student engagement activities in a commuter college environment.
  • Experience assessing student learning and leveraging learning outcomes to inform the strategic planning process within a student services department.

Required Skills

Essential Functions

  • Supervise departments assigned to Student Life, including Recreation/Sports and Fitness Centers (at Centennial and Rampart Range), Student Activities, Sustainability Programs, the Student Center, and Student Life spaces at Rampart Range Campus and the Downtown Studio Campus, and the Centennial Campus Conference Center.
  • Advises Student Government; provides oversight for all clubs and organizations; the student recognition process; engagement and co-curricular activities; budgets and funding processes.
  • Manages budgets for assigned general fund accounts, auxiliary accounts, and fee funded accounts.
  • Supports the annual PPCC graduation ceremony.
  • Serves on various College committees and taskforces as assigned. Acts as community liaison with multiple agencies and organizations as assigned. Partners with Deans, Directors, Divisions, and other College departments.

General Duties

  • Effective communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, particularly related to facilitating positive relationships with students, staff, and community members in an intercultural, educational context.
  • Ability to supervise staff – administrative/professional, classified, and student.
  • Foundational understanding of college policies and procedures, particularly those related to resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to make ethical decisions that align with college policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of student development theory with specific emphasis on leadership development.
  • Capacity to plan, implement, and assess student engagement programming that is specifically oriented to the needs of a diverse student body at a commuter college.
  • Understanding of laws, policies, and guidance that influence work in the college setting (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, Clery).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
