The Environmental Section Supervisor is responsible for managing and leading operating strategies, which support the Utilities vision statement, and the corporate environmental, health and safety strategies, and for functioning as part of the leadership team of the department. This position is accountable for development of operating goals for specific divisions and for achieving Environmental program implementation and compliance across CSU by working through managers, supervisors and staff professionals to achieve short-term objectives. Specific job assignments may include some or all of the following: *Scheduling and assigning work, reviewing and evaluating work performance, making hiring decisions, providing leadership, guidance and coaching and ensuring personnel are trained *Participating as a member of the Department leadership team in developing strategic plans, policies, and decisions affecting the Department and working with Managers in other departments to address and resolve issues, and coordinate projects *Providing leadership, management, and facilitation for division programs, goals, objectives and daily activities *Preparing and managing the Section's budget *Developing and directing the implementation of corporate environmental or safety/health programs, strategies, policies and goals *Providing technical support to the operating department, engineering consultants and contractors by answering inquiries *Providing program, policy, legislative, and legal consultation to management *Reviewing and preparing comments on proposed and final legislation and regulations *Representing the Utilities and Municipal operations on environmental, safety and/or health matters to the press and related organizations *Managing and conducting federal, state and local regulatory inspections, investigations and enforcement activities *Meeting and providing training to other departments management and staff on environmental issues *Negotiating with local, state and federal agencies *Participating in and tracking industry research and development to incorporate best practices and technology in corporate environmental, health and safety programs *Educating and advising management and staff on their environmental, safety, or health responsibilities and program updates *Preparing and directing the preparation of regulatory required reports, permits and procedures *Reviewing and recommending alternative departmental plans and objectives *Complying with the safety and health program in support of an incident and injury free workplace Skills / Requirements

Anticipate customer (internal and external) needs and fulfills them *Communicate clearly and concisely in writing and verbally *Demonstrate and share with others relevant knowledge and skill *Identify and analyze issues/problems creatively *Give timely, specific performance feedback; provide on-going coaching *Perform responsibly in support of CSU's mission *Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures; treat organizational resources with care Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are most often acquired through the following level of academic training and range of practical experience or an equivalent combination as stated below: Minimum Education Required: Most people in this occupation would have completed a Bachelor's Degree in a field such as Engineering (Environmental, Safety or other), or Physical or Biological Sciences. Completion of a relevant Graduate Degree preferred Minimum Experience Required: Most people in this occupation would have about ten years experience in management, preferably in a utilities environment.
